HBD Sponsors

When the HBD first cast off into the waters of self-sufficiency in 1997, we did so through public donations of cash to purchase and refurbish equipment to run on a donated T1 line.

Later, with the explosion of home brewing in the US, and the huge increase in the home brewing market, we attempted to garner sponsorship from allied businesses in order to cover our expenses. This model worked fairly well, until the perfect storm of:

  • a wealth of craft-brewed beers becoming almost universally available
  • the home brew market beginning to contract
  • an explosion of low-cost hosting providers that included mailing list management and "bulletin boards" which drove most of our past sponsors to create competing services on their own web sites at costs less than our suggested sponsorship levels
all comining to make our grip on seflf-sufficiency tenuous, at best. Several years of this situation precipitated the HBD's reliance on individual donations for its operations, and prompted the HBD to incorporate as a not-for-profit corporation in 2007.

Due to this incorporation, the HBD can no longer seek nor accept sponsorships; however, large donors are occasionally still acknowledged in the mastheads formerly used to indicate the HBD's sponsors.

In any case, as well as to the individual donors who come forward each and every year, the HBD owes its early existence to those who provided sponsorship dollars to keep our operations afloat. To recignize and honor their past support of the HBD, this page identifies those sponsors. Each has been significant to the continuation and continued development of this resource to the brewing community.
